The world's first mobile genome sequence analyzer app for smartphones has been developed by researchers at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Movie fans can compare the lab to Star Trek’s "tricorder”. The mobile lab works with sequencers like Illumina, Ion Torrent, PacBio, or Oxford Nanopore to sample DNA. The DNA is then analyzed on the iPhone app called iGenomics that has been programmed by software engineer Aspyn Palatnick.
