Whatsapp's controversial privacy policy leads to significant rise in Signal's user base

Facebook-owned Whatsapp has faced the ire of people across the world for its new controversial privacy policy. A tweet by Elon Musk in which he endorsed the use of messaging app Signal, led to a significant rise in the user base of Signal users. More than 810,000 users installed the Signal app on Sunday worldwide. This marks an 18 times rise in the download numbers of the app that is emerging as an alternative to Whatsapp.
