Scientists from the University of Leeds, UK have created the world's 'thinnest gold' which is just 2 atoms thick. The material is considered to be 2-D as all of the atoms, which are laid out in 2 layers, one on top of the other, are surface atoms & measures only 0.47 nanometers in thickness. One nanometer is a billionth of a meter. Researchers have brought 2-D gold to sub-nanometer scale, which is a new focus of nanotechnology.
