Voyager I, a NASA probe launched in 1977, passed into interstellar space in 2012, giving Earthlings their first view of the solar system's furthest reaches. A 3D depiction of the solar system's edge revealed a few additional mysteries about this enigmatic barrier, known as the outer heliosphere, in one of the most recent advances. The Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) was used to collect data for the 3D map in 2008.
