Scientists drilled into a massive ice sheet of ‘doomsday glacier’ for the first time. The Thwaites Glacier is situated in one of the most remote regions of West Antarctica. Researchers utilized hot water to drill to a 700-meter depth and are currently carrying out tests to find out if the glacier will fall apart in the coming decades. A small robot Icefin is also beneath the ice to examine its melting behaviour.
