Mystery of lava-like flows on Mars solved by scientists

The lava-like flows on Mars are formed not by lava but by mud, according to a new study. These landforms on the Martian surface have massive channels scoured into the surface by ancient liquids flowing downstream. Scientists say these are result of massive floods involving huge water comparable to the largest floods ever known to have struck Earth. When the water seeps into the subsurface it can emerge again as mud.
