Facebook's $650 million payments for privacy dispute settlement approved
A US federal judge cleared the way for Facebook to pay $650 million to settle a privacy dispute with 1.6 million users in the state of Illinois. The social media giant was sued by Chicago attorney Jay Edelson in 2015. Edelson had accused Facebook of illegally collecting biometric data to identify faces, which was a violation of a 2008 Illinois privacy law. A Facebook spokesperson said the firm was pleased to reach a settlement.
