Facebook acquires ID verification startup Confirm

Facebook is buying Confirm, a startup technology specialising in verifying government-issued IDs, like driver’s licenses. The startup, which has already earned at least $4 million, will be a part of Facebook’s Boston office. Facebook, for its strict policy of using users’ “authentic name”, often asks users to send formal identification if their account is locked. The Confirm technology will boost these efforts.
