The ambition of space agencies to establish a human base on the moon might become a reality soon as researchers at ESA have developed a process to extract oxygen from the moon dust. This will enable astronauts to create an extra-terrestrial oxygen extraction plant. If successful on an operational scale, the process will reduce the cost of transporting materials from Earth for constructing human bases on the Moon.
