End of manual scavenging: Lucknow introduced ‘Bandicoot’ robot

In order to end the manual sewage cleaning in Lucknow, Ministry of Urban Development has introduced sewage cleaning robots “Bandicoot”. The job of cleaning the drains in the city has been delegated to France-based utility company Suez. A Suez spokesperson said that operating “Bandicoot” is as easy as playing games on a mobile and it can perform every task that a human scavenger performs inside a manhole.
