Edinburgh University awards degrees posthumously to the first female medical students

7 females enrolled to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1869 but faced resistance from males. They were ultimately prevented from graduating & qualifying as doctors. Now the university awards degrees to the females' posthumous honorary bachelor of medicine. Those 7 women group is known as Edinburgh Seven-Mary Anderson, Emily Bovell, Matilda Chaplin, Helen Evans, Sophia Jex-Blake, Edith Pechey and Isabel Thorne.
