According to study findings, the deadly coronavirus can infect and replicate in human intestinal cells, which implies that the intestines are a target organ for the virus. The researchers say the virus enters the epithelial cells in the lungs by exploiting enzyme ACE2, which allows it to replicate and spread further. The gut epithelial cells also have ACE2. Patients have shown gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhoea.
