Real Madrid suffer shock defeat at Betis

Real Madrid was handed a shock defeat at Real Betis handing Barcelona an advantage in the La Liga title race. Barca had earlier beaten Real Sociedad 1-0 to move two points clear but Real couldn’t respond with a victory of their own. They first fell behind to Sidnei's stunning strike but leveled through Karim Benzema's penalty. Ex-Barcelona forward Cristian Tello was Betis' match-winner, scoring on the 82nd minute.
