Russia to formally annex four occupied regions in Ukraine in a major escalation

Russian President Vladimir Putin is to hold a signing ceremony on Friday wherein he is expected to announce a formal annexation of four Russian-held territories in Ukraine. Declaring full Russian control in these areas – which make up about 15% of Ukraine's land mass and 10% of its population – could set the stage for another escalation in the more than seven-month-old war.
