More than 40 people have died amid renewed anti-government protests in Iraq on Friday by tear gas, live rounds and fires. The protests are second phase of a movement in early October that saw more than 150 people dead. Curfew has been imposed in southern provinces like Basra which was devastated by protests last year also over moribund public services. Iraq's highest Shiite authority has urged UN to restrain order.
