According to China's state-run Global Times tabloid, he said Taiwan was a nation in a video advertising his new film "Fast & Furious 9". The apology video sparked more outrage on Chinese social media. Fans criticised him for calling Taiwan a country. He is now the top high-profile Westerner who is chastised for openly, albeit mistakenly, defying China's politics.
