Germany is introducing rabbis into its military for the first time since the Nazis banished them from armed forces in 1930s. The law has been passed to reestablish the official position of military rabbi. They were part of the German military during World War I, as around 100,000 Jewish soldiers fought for the country. They were banned after Hitler assumed power in 1933, as Nazis were removing Jews from public life.
