Fumio Kishida, a former foreign minister, is set to assume the charge as the new Prime Minister of Japan. Kishida won a four-way election for the leader of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party. 64-year-old Kishida got a majority in the first round of voting. He will be formally elected as PM in a parliamentary session scheduled to begin on October 4. Kishida will succeed Yoshihide Suga, whose approval ratings fell drastically.
