Afghanistan frees Taliban officials in push for peace talks
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has announced his government has already released three significant Taliban figures in order to convince the insurgents to free an American and an Australian professor they had abducted in 2016 and held captive for over three years. The three members of the Taliban-linked Haqqani group who were released include Anas Haqqani, Haji Mali Khan and Hafiz Rashid who were held at Bagram prison.
