Wessel Johannes "Hansie" Cronje (September 25, 1969 – June 1, 2002) was a South African international cricketer who captained the South African national team in the 1990s. Cronje was a right-handed all-rounder who captained his team to victory in 27 test matches and 99 one-day internationals. Despite being banned from cricket for life for his role in a match-fixing scandal, he was voted the 11th greatest South African in 2004. In 2002, he was killed in a plane crash.
