Idrissa Elba is an English actor, producer, and musician who was born on September 6, 1972. He attended the National Youth Theatre in London and is best known for his roles as Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire, DCI John Luther in BBC One's Luther, and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor - Miniseries or Television Film, winning one of them, and has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards.
