The film is based on the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio feature in it. The two actors play characters from different socioeconomic classes. They fell in love after meeting on the ship, but it was against the rules in 1912 for a rich girl to fall in love with a poor lad. The film premiered on November 1, 1997, at the Tokyo International Film Festival, where The New York Times described the reception as "tepid."

Tim Cook, an American corporate entrepreneur and engineer, has been Apple's CEO since August 2011. Tim Cook was born Timothy D. Cook on November 1, 1960, in the little town of Robertsdale, Alabama. Cook, the second of three sons born to father Donald, a shipyard worker, and mother Geraldine, a homemaker, finished second in his class from Robertsdale High School in 1978. Shortly after the death of predecessor Steve Jobs in August 2011, Cook was chosen Apple's new CEO.

The Japanese ship Taiyo Maru landed at Honolulu in November 1941, carrying 340 passengers, including Suguru Suzuki, the Japanese Imperial Navy's youngest lieutenant commander. His covert objective was to validate information regarding Pearl Harbor defenses and get more data from Japanese sources in Honolulu. According to the spy, Suzuki submitted a list of 97 questions to Yoshikawa via Consul General Kita on a "tiny ball of crumpled rice paper." He had 24 hours to answer. Yoshikawa recounted some of Suzuki's queries and replies in a 1960 article:

Vallabhbhai Patel, full name Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, byname Sardar Patel, was an Indian barrister and statesman who was a leader of the Indian National Congress during the Indian independence fight. The world's highest statue, the Statue of Unity, is dedicated to visionary Indian statesman Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Along batting Rahul Dravid, he holds the record for the biggest third-inning partnership (376 runs) in a test match.

Indira Gandhi, India's prime minister, is killed by two of her own bodyguards in New Delhi. Sikhs Beant Singh and Satwant Singh opened fire on Gandhi as she headed to her office from an adjoining home. Satwant Singh, who lived long enough to stand trial, was convicted and killed in 1989. Riots erupted in New Delhi following Gandhi's murder. Over the span of two days, more than 1,000 innocent Sikhs were slain in indiscriminate assaults. Rajiv Gandhi, Gandhi's son, took over as Prime Minister.

The occupations of Constantinople and Smyrna galvanized the Turkish national movement, which eventually triumphed in the Turkish War of Independence. On November 1, 1922, Turkey's Grand National Assembly formally abolished the Ottoman Sultanate.
