Cook, the second of three sons born to father Donald, a shipyard worker, and mother Geraldine, a homemaker, finished second in his class from Robertsdale High School in 1978. Cook left IBM after a 12-year career and went on to management positions at Intelligent Electronics and Compaq before joining Apple in 1998. Shortly after the death of predecessor Steve Jobs in August 2011, Cook was chosen Apple's new CEO.

Vallabhbhai Patel, full name Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, byname Sardar Patel, was an Indian barrister and statesman who was a leader of the Indian National Congress during the Indian independence fight. He served as deputy prime minister, minister of home affairs, minister of information, and minister of states during the first three years of Indian independence after 1947. Patel was the leading contender for the Indian National Congress presidency in 1945–46, but Gandhi once again interfered to ensure Nehru's election. The British viceroy invited Nehru, as President of the Congress, to establish an interim administration.

Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman, often known as VVS Laxman, is a former Indian cricketer who was born in Hyderabad on November 1, 1974. He was a right-handed batter who was also one of the greatest. He was also a part-time off-break right-handed bowler. Because of his surname VVS Laxman, he was also known as Very Very Special Laxman. His 281-run innings against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001 is regarded as the best Test effort in the previous 50 years. Along batting Rahul Dravid, he holds the record for the biggest third-inning partnership (376 runs) in a test match.

In 1948, France and India agreed that the inhabitants of France's Indian possessions would choose their political future. French India was not de jure united with the Indian Union until 1962. On November 1, 1954, the bureaucracy was de facto united with India's. The four enclaves of Pondichéry, Yanam, Mahe, and Karaikal were de facto transferred to the Indian Union on November 1, 1954, and became the Union Territory of Puducherry.
