Max Müller, the son of renowned poet Wilhelm Müller, was educated in Sanskrit, India's classical language, and other languages in Leipzig, Berlin, and Paris. In 1846, he moved to England and settled in Oxford, where he became deputy professor of modern languages in 1850. In 1868, he was appointed professor of comparative philology, and he retired in 1875. On October 28, 1900, he died at the age of 76.
