On October 29, 1999, a super cyclone with winds of 300 mph hit Odisha, causing what was perhaps the worst cyclonic tragedy in the previous century. The super cyclone's wind speed was so high that the anemometer, a device used to measure wind speed, at the IMD headquarters and at Paradip failed to register it. Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam coastal districts were compelled to evacuate.

Sylvia Plath, one of the most dynamic and admired poets of 20th century was born on October 27th in the year 1932. She was an important part of literary community, Her work was read and praised by number of readers. The New York Times Books Review had described her as "one of the most celebrated and controversial postwar poets writing in English".

Matthew Lawrence Hayden AM (born 29 October 1971) is a former Australian cricketer and cricket pundit. His professional career lasted fifteen years. Hayden was a strong and aggressive left-handed opening batsman who, together with opening partners Justin Langer and Adam Gilchrist, contributed significantly to Australia's success in Test and ODI cricket during its "golden period" (2004-2011). He is largely regarded as one of the finest Test openers and holds the record for the highest individual score by an Australian batsman, with 380 against Zimbabwe during Zimbabwe's 2003 tour of Australia. This is the second-greatest individual score in test cricket, after only Brian Lara's 400*, and the best score by an opening batsman.

Lajpat Rai led a nonviolent march in protest of the Simon Commission's visit to Lahore on October 30, 1928. James A. Scott, the superintendent of police, directed that the protestors be lathi-charged and personally attacked Rai. He did not recover entirely from his injuries and died on November 17, 1928.

James Cook, a renowned British Naval Captain, Navigator and Explorer who sailed the seaways and coasts of Canada and conducted three expeditions to Pacific Ocean was born on October 27th, in the year1728.

Julia Fiona Roberts was born on October 28, 1967, in Smyrna, Georgia, as the youngest of three children in a family full of creative people. Until their divorce in 1971, her parents were both actors who operated a workshop for budding authors and performers. Roberts intended to be a veterinarian at first, but she gave up when she discovered she had "an inability to cope with science on a brainiac kind of level." Julia Roberts is an Academy Award-winning actress and one of Hollywood's biggest stars, best known for her roles in films such as 'Steel Magnolias,' 'Pretty Woman,' and 'Erin Brockovich.'

Michael Faraday, on October 28th in 1831 invented the first laboratory models of Electric Generators or Dynamo. It consisted of a copper disc rotating between the poles of magnet. This was not the Dynamo in its true sense as it doesn't use the commutator.

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he understands why Muslims were outraged by cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. It comes after a deadly knife assault on a church in Nice, the country's third alleged Islamist incident in less than a month. A dispute has erupted with certain Muslim nations over the subject of the drawings. Some have called for a boycott of French products, despite Mr. Macron's defense of the right to use the pictures in the framework of free expression.

On his deathbed, Akbar named Salm as his successor. The Persian name Jahngr ("World Seizer") was chosen as the new emperor's reign name. However, he died at the age of 58.

One of the most famous novels in English Literature, Gulliver's Travels was first published on October 28th in the year 1726 by Benjamin Motte. The Novel is divided into 4 parts and basically deals with the expeditions of a protagonist named Gulliver.

Maxentius, full name Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maxentius, was a Roman emperor who reigned from 306 to 312. In 305, his father, Emperor Maximian, abdicated alongside Diocletian. Maxentius was passed over in favour of Flavius Valerius Severus, who was made a caesar and then an augustus in the new tetrarchy established after these abdications (two augusti with a caesar under each). He drowned in the battle of Milvian Bridge and died in 312.

On October 29, 1959, the serial debuted in the Franco-Belgian comic magazine Pilote. Goscinny and Uderzo had already achieved success with their series Oumpah-pah, which was published in Tintin magazine, prior to developing the Asterix series. René Goscinny wrote it and Albert Uderzo drew it until Goscinny's death in 1977.

Phoenix was born Joaquin Rafael Phoenix on October 28, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Phoenix traveled around a lot as a child since his parents were missionaries for the Children of God religious organization. Joaquin Phoenix is an Academy Award-winning actor best known for his roles in films such as "Gladiator," "Walk the Line," and "Joker." Following his early achievements, he went on to feature in Gladiator and Walk the Line, for which he received a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. Phoenix returns to the big screen after a brief absence with The Master.

Max Müller, the son of renowned poet Wilhelm Müller, was educated in Sanskrit, India's classical language, and other languages in Leipzig, Berlin, and Paris. In 1846, he moved to England and settled in Oxford, where he became deputy professor of modern languages in 1850. In 1868, he was appointed professor of comparative philology, and he retired in 1875. On October 28, 1900, he died at the age of 76.

Ted Hughes, born Edward J. Hughes and died on October 28, 1998 in London, was an English poet and English Poet Laurate (1984-1998) whose most characteristic verse is devoid of sentimentality, emphasising the cunning and savagery of animal life in harsh, sometimes disjunctive lines.

29th of October, 2005 With Diwali only two days away, Delhi's marketplaces were teeming with people. The holiday cheer was in the air until 5.30 p.m., when terrorists detonated a series of bombs, leaving a trail of devastation, death, blood, limbs, and dread. Terrorists put explosives in bags in the bustling marketplaces of Sarojini Nagar and Paharganj, as well as on a DTC bus. The three explosions killed 67 individuals and wounded almost 200 more.

While attending Madras Christian College, she even played guitar in an all-female rock band. PepsiCo's president and chief financial officer is Indra K. Nooyi. The multinational powerhouse that Nooyi leads is best known for its Pepsi soft drinks, but it is also one of the world's largest snack-food firms.
