The spacecraft was expected to spend around 30 minutes on Venus' rough surface, but it ended up sending data for more than 2 hours after landing on March 1, 1982. Since the 1980s, no lander has traveled to the surface of Venus, but numerous orbiters have. Venera 13, a Soviet spacecraft, was the first to send color photos from Venus's surface. Despite the fact that other landers landed before and after Venera 13, images from Venera 13 are more frequently distributed since they are in color.
