On November 1, 1894, Nicolas II succeeded his father Alexander III as Tsar, and on May 26, 1896, he was crowned Tsar in Moscow. April 1894, Nikolay Aleksandrovich (emperor as Nicholas II). Nicholas was not prepared, either by upbringing or temperament, for the complex tasks that awaited him as autocratic ruler of a vast empire.
