Bachendri Pal was born on May 24, 1954 in the Garhwal hamlet of Nakuri to Shri Kishan Singh Pal and Smt. Hansa Devi. Her father worked as a border trader, delivering food from India to Tibet. Bachendri Pal was a strong-spirited youngster who excelled in both academics and athletics from an early age. Bachendri Pal won a coveted position in Indian history by being the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain peak. Bachendri, a free-spirited, daring, and adventure-seeking young lady, had always wished to be a mountaineer. Bachendri Pal made history by successfully summiting Everest thanks to her hard work and commitment.
