On 13 May 1971, the occupying Pakistan Army, aided by local collaborators, massacred unarmed Hindu residents of the Demra Union villages in present-day Faridpur Upazila in Pabna District. On a single day, it is estimated that 800–900 people were killed. Rape and plunder were also committed, as well as the torching of mosques, temples, schools, and homes.
