Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910) was an English social reformer, statistician, and the creator of modern nursing. During the Crimean War, Nightingale rose to prominence as a nurse manager and trainer, organising care for wounded soldiers in Constantinople. She improved the image of nursing and became an icon of Victorian culture, particularly as "The Lady with the Lamp" making rounds of wounded soldiers at night.
