Mountaineer Santosh Yadav placed India on the map by climbing Mount Everest twice; her first ascent was in 1992, and she was the youngest woman in the world at the time. The following year, in 1993, she joined an Indo-Nepalese women's expedition to the world's tallest peak, successfully climbing it to set the global record as the first woman to ascend Mount Everest. Yadav is also the first woman to successfully climb Mount Everest from the Kangshung Face! Kangshung Face, also known as East Face, is the peak's eastern-facing side and one of Mount Everest's Chinese faces.
