The sculptural arrangement The Motherland Monument is one of the exhibits of the Museum of Ukraine's World War II History. It is located on one of Kyiv's highest points and can be viewed from anywhere in the city. The Motherland Monument's designers wanted it to represent the tenacity of the national spirit that survived and triumphed in the face of adversity. On May 9, 1981, the monument and museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War opened to the public.

In 1894, Thomas Edison of Menlo Park Offsite Link, New Jersey, formally introduced the KinetoscopeOffsite Link, a hand-cranked, single-viewer, lighted box to display the resulting films. William Kennedy Laurie, an Edison employee, was primarily responsible for the development of this group of inventions. It was a peep show machine that displayed a continuous loop of the film Dickson invented, lit by an Edison light source and viewed individually through the window of a cabinet housing its components.

According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, he is the greatest experimentalist since Michael Faraday (1791–1867). Aside from his work in his home country, he spent a significant portion of his career in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Recognized for her brave leadership of social justice movements – women's empowerment in developing countries, advocacy for the human rights of small farming communities, and scientific analysis of environmental sustainability.

Gopal Krishna Gokhale was born on May 9, 1866, in the Ratnagiri District of the Bombay Presidency to an impoverished but ostensibly respectable Chitapavan Brahmin family. He graduated from Elphinstone College with a bachelor's degree at the age of 18 and joined the prestigious Deccan Education Society. At the age of 22, Gokhale was appointed secretary of the illustrious Sarvajanik Sabha, Bombay's main political organisation. He also taught at Fergusson College and served as secretary of the Deccan Education Society in 1891. Gopal Krishna Gokhale was a nationalist leader in India. He was the President of the Indian National Congress, as well as a member of the Imperial Legislative Council and the founder of the Servants of India Society.

Dinesh Kumar Patel (born May 8, 1989 in Lucknow, India) is an Indian right-handed pitcher who previously played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the first Indian player, along with Rinku Singh, to sign a contract with a major American baseball team.

On May 8, 1886, pharmacist John Stith Pemberton delivered a jug of his newest patent medicine, a tonic known as Coca-Cola, to Jacob's Pharmacy on Peachtree Street. The syrup was mixed with soda water, tasted good, and was sold for a nickel a glass. Coca-Cola was marketed as a drug that could "cure all nervous afflictions—sick headache, neuralgia, hysteria, melancholy, and so on..."

Robert Leroy Johnson was born on May 8, 1911, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, to Julia Major Dodds and Noah Johnson, a sawmill employee. Robert Johnson was an American blues composer, guitarist, and vocalist who impacted both his contemporaries and many forthcoming blues and rock performers with his uncanny falsetto voice and brilliant, rhythmic slide guitar. In Robinsonville, where he spent the most of his childhood, he met Delta blues giants Willie Brown, Charley Patton, and Son House, who were unimpressed with his skill. They were, however, astounded by his musical abilities when he returned to his hometown after a year abroad. According to mythology, he struck a bargain with Satan at a nearby crossroads, thereby earning his great talent as a guitarist, singer, and composer. It is alleged that he sold his soul to Satan in exchange for only eight more years of life.

Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati (Balakrishna Menon; May 8, 1916 – August 3, 1993) was a Hindu spiritual leader and teacher. In 1951, he established the Chinmaya Mission, a global non-profit organisation dedicated to disseminating knowledge of Advaita Vedanta, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, and other ancient Hindu scriptures. Chinmayananda led a global Hindu spiritual and cultural renaissance through the Mission, popularising these spiritual texts and values and teaching them in English all over India and abroad.

Enrique Iglesias was born in Madrid, Spain on May 8, 1975. Julio Iglesias, his father, is a well-known Spanish musician, and Isabel Preysler, his mother, is a well-known Madrid socialite. When Enrique's parents split in 1979, he moved home with his mother. Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler, better known as Enrique Iglesias, is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and actor who is one of the world's best-selling Latin recording artists. His father was a well-known Spanish musician, but Enrique entered the music industry under the alias Martinez because he did not want to utilise his renowned father's name to further his own career.
