Finger and Kane collaborated on the first Batman tale, "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate." It appeared in Detective Comics #27, which was released on May 1, 1939. (cover date: May 1939). Batman was introduced in his debut tale as dull socialite Bruce Wayne. He transformed into a vicious crimefighter, dispatching hoodlums with grim enjoyment while dressed in his trademark suit. "A fitting death for his type," Batman declared after throwing a criminal into an acid vat.
