Devika Rani, the first lady of Indian film, was born on March 30, 1908 in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh to Col. M. N. Chaudhuri. She is known as the "First Lady of Indian Cinema." The actress was married twice, first to Himanshu Rai and then to Svetoslav Roerich. Devika began her career with the film Karma (1933) and went on to appear in numerous other Bollywood films. She received the highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri, and was the first winner of the Dada Saheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.
