Akhil Kumar (born March 27, 1981) is an Indian boxer who has won several international and national boxing championships. He boxes in a "open guarded" manner. For his exploits in international boxing, he received the Arjuna Award from the Indian government in 2005. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India nominated Akhil Kumar and Mary Kom as national observers for boxing in March 2017. Kumar made his international boxing debut in 1999, earning gold at the 6th YMCA Junior International Boxing Championship. In 2001, he won another gold medal in Russia at the International Invitational Boxing Championship. He won a gold medal in the flyweight division in 2003, defeating Vilitio M Payla (Php) 20-16.
