Karl Marx was a German philosopher, critic of political economics, economist, historian, sociologist, political theorist, journalist, and socialist revolutionary who lived from 5 May 1818 to 14 March 1883. The Communist Manifesto, published in 1848, and the three-volume Das Kapital (1867–1883) are two of his most well-known works. Marx's political and philosophical ideas shaped future intellectual, economic, and political history. His name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a social theory school. Marx was born in Trier, Germany, and attended the universities of Bonn and Berlin, where he studied law and philosophy. In 1843, he married Jenny von Westphalen, a German theatre critic and political activist.&am
