Madhavrao Jivajirao Scindia lived from March 10, 1945 through September 30, 2001. He was an Indian politician and a minister in the Indian National Congress's union cabinet. Scindia was the son of Jiwajirao Scindia, the last British-ruled Maharaja of the princely state of Gwalior. Scindia succeeded to a privy purse, certain rights, and the use of the title "Maharaja of Gwalior" following the death of his father in 1961, under terms agreed upon during India's political unification, which lasted until 1971, when they were abolished by the 26th Amendment to the Indian Constitution.
