Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris, born March 10, 1940, is a martial artist and actor from the United States. He holds black belts in Tang Soo Do, Brazilian jiu jitsu, and judo. Norris won several martial arts titles after serving in the United States Air Force and then developed his own discipline, Chun Kuk Do. Soon after, Norris began training celebrities in martial arts in Hollywood. Norris went on to play a supporting part in the espionage picture The Wrecking Crew (1969). Bruce Lee, a friend and fellow martial artist, encouraged him to portray one of the main antagonists in Way of the Dragon (1972). While Norris continued to act, friend and student Steve McQueen advised him to take it more seriously.
