Mahatma Gandhi commits his first act of civil disobedience. On this day in 1893, Mahatma Gandhi was forced to leave a first-class cabin on a South African railway due to racial prejudice. Gandhi was removed off the train because he refused to vacate his seat. Gandhi was on his way from Durban to Pretoria to represent a client in a court of law. Gandhi's legal company had reserved him a first-class seat. When the train arrived in Maritzburg, Natal's capital, about 9 p.m., a railway helper approached him with bedding. Gandhi thanked him and explained that he was bringing his own bedding.

On this day, June 7, 1975, the inaugural Cricket World Cup began. The tournament was held in England from June 7 to June 21, 1975, and eight countries took part, including India.
