Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu (born July 1, 1949) is an Indian politician who has served as India's Vice President since 2017. He previously served in the Modi Cabinet as the minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development, and Information and Broadcasting. From 2002 to 2004, he was the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which he founded. He previously served in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government as the Union Cabinet Minister for Rural Development. On August 11, 2017, he was sworn in as Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
