Another reason the peacock was chosen as the National bird was because of its widespread presence across the country, so much so that even ordinary people are familiar with it. Furthermore, no other country has the peacock as its national bird. The peacock met all of these requirements and hence became India's national bird.

He was one of the Lal Bal Pal triumvirate's three members. In 1894, he was also involved in the early phases of the Punjab National Bank and the Lakshmi Insurance Company. He died a few weeks after incurring serious injuries during a police baton charge while leading a nonviolent protest march against the all-British Simon Commission, which was set up by the UK to alter Indian constitutional law.
