Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei, known simply as Galileo, was an astronomer, physicist, and engineer from Pisa, modern-day Italy, who was frequently referred to as a polymath. Galileo is credited with founding observational astronomy, modern physics, the scientific method, and modern science. On January 8, 1642, he died.
