Two ladies, Bindu Ammini (40 at the time of admittance to the temple) and Kanakadurga (39), entered the Sabarimala shrine on January 2, 2019, as evidenced by CCTV photos. Bindu Ammini is from Koyilandy in the Kozhikode district, and Kanagadurga is from Angadipuram in the Malappuram district. There were protests when the temple was briefly shuttered after they entered for purification. They were the first women to enter after the Supreme Court decided to lift the 18-year-old ban on women of menstrual age entering the shrine.
