Vidya Balan, born 1 January 1979, is an Indian actress who mostly works in Hindi films. She has received multiple prizes, including a National Film Award and six Filmfare Awards, for her parts in female-led films, which she credits with bringing about a change in the representation of women. In 2014, the Government of India bestowed the Padma Shri honour upon her.
