Satyendra Nath Bose was an Indian mathematician and physicist who specialised in theoretical physics. He was born on January 1, 1894. He is most known for his early 1920s work on quantum mechanics, when he collaborated with Albert Einstein to provide the groundwork for Bose–Einstein statistics and the notion of the Bose–Einstein condensate. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and received India's second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, from the Government of India in 1954.
