Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (March 6, 1475 – February 18, 1564), known simply as Michelangelo, was a High Renaissance Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. His work, which was born in the Republic of Florence, had a significant impact on the evolution of Western art, particularly in connection to Renaissance concepts of humanism and naturalism. Along with his adversary and elder contemporary, Leonardo da Vinci, he is frequently regarded as the ideal Renaissance man. Michelangelo is one of the best-documented painters of the 16th century, thanks to the sheer number of surviving letters, drawings, and reminiscences, and numerous experts have hailed him as the most talented artist of his day.
