Jagjit Singh was an Indian composer, vocalist, and musician who was born on February 8, 1941. He chose poetry that was relatable to the general public and composed them in a way that placed more emphasis on the meaning of the words and the melody evoked by them. He composed and sang in many languages and is credited with bringing back and increasing the popularity of ghazals, an Indian classical art form. His composing and gayaki (singing) are categorised as Bol-pradhan in Indian classical music, which emphasises language.
