Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi, often known by the honorific prefix Pandit and born on February 4, 1922, was one of the best Hindustani classical vocalists from Karnataka. He is recognised for his khayal style of singing as well as his famous devotional music performances (bhajans and abhangs). Joshi is a Hindustani classical musician from the Kirana gharana. Joshi is known for his performances, and he toured Afghanistan, Italy, France, Canada, and the United States between 1964 and 1982. He was the first Indian musician in New York City to have his concerts promoted on posters. Joshi was a driving force behind the annual Sawai Gandharva Music Festival, which pays tribute to his mentor, Pandit Sawai Gandharva.
