Iconic French designer Pierre Cardin, known for his avant-garde fashions in the 1960s and 1970s, died on December 29, 2020, at the age of 98. The French Academy of Fine Arts says. The academy did not specify the cause of death or where and when he died. In the 1960s, he was most known for his stark, short tunics and his use of vinyl, helmets, and goggles, which helped birth the so-called space-age aesthetic. Cardin rose to prominence after licencing his name for use on a range of items. Licensing became typical practise for fashion designers later on.
