Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, also known by the pen names Ghalib and Asad, was an Indian poet who was born on December 27, 1797. Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula was his honorific. During his lifetime, the already declining Mughal empire was eclipsed and displaced by British East India Company Rule, and eventually deposed following the defeat of the First Indian War of Independence (Sepoy Mutiny) of 1857, as described in his work.
